Technology Description

‘Oregon Snowflake’ resulted from a mutation breeding program that treated wild-collected seed with ethylmethane sulfonate (EMS) to induce variation with the goal of developing more compact forms of flowering currant. ‘Oregon Snowflake’ was selected for its highly dissected, lacy foliage that is unique among available flowering currant cultivars. This plant has been serially propagated by stem cuttings over generations and roots readily from softwood cuttings collected late spring to summer. It has been observed to maintain its characteristics through consecutive asexual propagation as well as demonstrate consistency in the field.
