Nanoporous Membrane Protein Biomarker Detectors
Case ID:
PRAS-01
Web Published:
7/20/2009
Description:
Disease assessment can be based on one or many biomarkers – a specific gene, protein, or other biological substance – that can be used to assess disease progress and aid in determining treatment. Unfortunately, biomarker-based measurements are often slow, expensive or otherwise impractical.
PSU researchers have fabricated biomarker detectors with nano-pores. A nanoporous membrane of biomarker detectors can be sensitized to respond to a single target compound for increased accuracy, or different portions of the nano-membrane can be differently sensitized, allowing for more efficient detection of multiple biomarkers.
